Daniel B. Summerhill is a poet, essayist and scholar originally from Oakland, CA. His work has been published widELy, including venues such as: The rumpus,Columbia Journal, Obsidian, Inkwell, Ploughshares, AlaSKA QUARTERLY REVIEW, CAllaloo, Academy of American Poets and elsewhere.

he is the winner of the 2023 1/2k prize from the indiana review and the inaugural rumpus prize for nonfiction. he is the author of two collections of poems, Divine, Divine, Divine (Nomadic Press 2021) which was a semi-finalist for the Wheeler and Saturnalia Poetry Prizes and Mausoleum of Flowers (CavanKerry Press 2022).

Summerhill has earned fellowships from Baldwin for the Arts, Virginia center for the creative arts (vcca), Esperimento sul respiro and The Watering Hole. He is Assistant Professor of Poetry at santa clara university and faculty in the mFA Program at University of san francisco. He holds the disctinction of being the inaugural Poet Laureate of Monterey County.

DANIEL believes in the liberation of oppressed peoples everywhere, especially through the dissolution of empire.
